Objective: To determine the impact of a telematic occupational therapy intervention based on the education in energy conservation techniques, in the functional status of patients discharged from ICU post-COVID-19. Methods: A pre-post quasi-experimental study, without a control group, where a telematic intervention was implemented to simplify the activities of daily living and educate in the energy conservation techniques. The sample included all the patients admitted to ICU suffering from COVID-19 in Hospital Universitario de Bellvitge The intervention consisted in 3 telephone calls: at hospital discharge, past 6 and 12 weeks. In each call, an individualized assessment of the functional independence was carried out, and they were educated in the use of the energy conservation techniques. A functionality scale, Borg and LONDON scales before and after the intervention were compared, as well as the satisfaction perceived by the patient, with a Likert scale. Results: 90 patients were included. The median of days of admission to ICU was 19 days. Statistically significant differences were observed when comparing functional independence and Borg, at discharge and at 3 months of follow-up (functional independence: median = 100 [interquartile range = 25-124] vs. median = 124 [interquartile range = 54-126] and Borg: median = 5 [interquartile range = 0-10] vs. median = 2 [interquartile range = 0-8]; pValue <0.001). There were no significant differences at LONDON scale, at 6 and 12 weeks. Conclusions: The telematic occupational therapy intervention was associated with an improvement in the functional status and the subjective feeling of effort, in patients discharged after hospitalization in the ICU due to COVID-19

DeCS Palabras clave

MeSH Keywords
<br/> DOI: S1885-527X2021000200006}, number={2}, journal={Revista Terapia Ocupacional Galicia}, author={Navarro-Correal *, Coral and Miñana-Álvarez, María and Garrido-Sánchez, Arantxa and Cabo-Santos, Helena and Cámara-Menoyo, David and Adamuz-Tomás, Jordi}, year={2021}, month={nov.}, pages={128-137} }
